“Then Moses said, ‘Now show me your glory.’” — Exodus 33:18 (NIV)
Our pastor recently preached from Exodus 33 and 34. Moses' request to see God's glory was a bold one! And challenging. Is this our prayer?
“Show me your glory.”
Moses was standing on the edge of the unknown. He had just spent days with God on the top of the mountain. The people Moses was leading were discouraged because Moses had been gone so long. They asked Aaron to give them another god. Moses walks in on their celebration; he's angry, and God is angry. The next scene is unexpected. What would you have requested from God at this point?
Moses didn't ask for safety, strategy, or even strength. Instead, he asked for God's presence!
That gives me pause as I think about my prayers over the last few days and weeks. How often do I long for God's presence over His powerful gifts?
In a world that prizes visibility and volume, what if we longed for the weight of God’s presence more than platform, praise, or control?
What if we stopped chasing answers and started asking to see Him?
Over the next several days, let's walk with Moses. The tent of meeting, the cleft of the rock, into the very heart of what it means to seek and reflect God's glory.
Here’s what’s coming:
Wednesday: The Bold Ask – Moses’ prayer and what it stirs in us
Thursday: Face to Face – Friendship with God in quiet places
Friday: The Hidden Glory – When God shields and surprises us
Sunday: Glory in the Ordinary – Finding God in His character
Monday: Glory Seekers – Becoming what we behold
My prayer is that we will all long to know God, to be in His presence. May we pray with Moses, “Lord, show me your glory.”
